Run For a Cause

Run For a Cause

Emma Harding, Staff Writer

Come out to support the fight against cancer while running in the 9th annual Lily’s Run and Kingdom Kids this Sunday, October 8! Registration and Family Festival activities begin at 12:00 pm in Vickery Village, while the actual 5k and 1 mile walk start at 1:00 pm. Kingdom Kids will offer face painting, rock painting, and for a $5 fee, you can create a Halloween craft. Lily’s Run gear, like shirts and hats, will be available for sale and food will be obtainable as well. Lily’s Run is held in honor of Lily Anderson, an 11 year old girl who sadly passed away from cancer in 2012. All of the proceeds from Lily’ run go toward granting wishes for four local kids in Forsyth County.

Four amazing kids, who are dealing with terminal illnesses, will be granted wishes this year thanks to the amazing turnout of Lily’s Run already. Maya, who is dealing with a rare form of pediatric cancer but still remains her bubbly self, wishes to attend the 2017 GMA Dove Awards with her family and her best friend. Kre, who was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma and told that she was going to have trouble walking in life, wishes to visit the sunny Bahamas. Brantley, who sadly has only weeks left to live was granted his wish early in order to create as many memories as possible before leaving his family.

Shae, who is in the recovering stages after having surgery to remove her Osteosarcoma in March, wishes to receive help with her tuition in order to attend the University of South Carolina.  Please keep these beautiful children in your prayers as they walk their journey in life.

Even if you decide not to run, still come out to support the fight against cancer and to meet new people from around the community. If you end up going, lookout for Forsyth Central’s DECA chapter and ask about how you can help with volunteering.
