Tomi Lahren was a conservative radio host for Blaze TV, until she made comments on The View in support of pro-choice. When she was a guest on the talk show, she stated  “I can’t sit here and be a hypocrite and say I’m for limited government, but I think the government should decide what women do with their bodies.”

This did not sit well with Glenn Beck, who decided to “permanently ban” Lahren. She replied by tweeting “I have moderate, conservative, and libertarian views. I’m human. I will never apologize, to anyone, for being an independent thinker.”

The firing of Tomi Lahren has sparked controversy and has posed an important question. Should you be fired for your opinion? Lahren has made countless controversial statements in the name of free speech on her segment for Blaze TV and has never received any backlash from the network, but the second she went against the collective thought of conservatism, she was  ostracized.

Although many believe free speech should be granted in the workplace, it is actually not a right. According to the HR Examiner,Employees don’t have a Constitutional right to free speech or freedom of expression at work. The Constitution’s right to free speech only applies when the government is trying to restrict it. Even then, it’s not absolute.”

Lahren is seeking legal action, and her lawyer has stated “It was made very clear to her she was being terminated for what she said on ‘The View.”Although It was not fair for Lahren to be fired for simply stating her opinion, Networks have the power to fire anyone who does not push their agenda. She was hired because her views fit those of the network, but if everyone is expected to have the same perspective, what is the point of having multiple commentators?

Lahren still has a large following and has even garnered support from the left for her statements on pro-choice. Ken Bone has even came out to say that it unfortunate that she is being slammed. She will be able to find another platform or create her own. She could start a youtube channel and give her political commentary in whatever way she sees fit with no interference or censorship, which is the best option for anyone who is a free thinker and wants to voice their opinion freely because you can basically say whatever you want as long as you don’t attack a specific person.
