The FCHS competition cheerleaders have risen to victory against twenty-five other competing teams. Walking away with first place, the cheerleaders are now advancing to state competition which will be held at the Columbus civic center this Friday, November 11th. The team was triumphant over their fiercest competitors, Johns Creek high school, who won first place in state last year as well as many other competitively good teams such as Mill Creek high school. The team tied in fifth place last year in state, so they are hopeful as they practice every day this week until the competition.

“I’m so proud to be on this team! We’ve come so far and gotten so close this season, and I can’t wait to show everyone what we can do at state,” Maggie Carpenter, junior, says.image1-17

Their energy is excited yet a bit sad since this weekend will be the last of the season. No matter what happens, there will be some heartbreak for the seniors that will be missed.

“I feel very confident going to state after winning first place at sectionals. We’ve worked so hard all season, and all of our hard work is finally paying off. I feel really upset with the cheer season ending though because we are losing our seniors, and they’ve led our team so well this season. We’ve all grown close, and it’s going to be sad not cheering with them anymore,” Isabel Martinez stated.

The FCHS competition cheerleaders set off to their last time cheering together as a team, but first place at state is closer in reach than it ever has been before.

“I’m super excited because we have a really big chance of winning,” Madison Mcknight explained. Winning first at sectionals has certainly boosted the team’s morale and given them hope that they can end on a good note. The goodbyes will be sad, but let’s hope they will be overshadowed by a glorious victory at state, a first place victory that has never before been seen by the FCHS competition cheer team.
